About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Waste & Recycling Operations Manager to lead the delivery of Council’s waste and recycling facility operations, including the oversight of capital upgrades. This role oversees multisite operations, drives innovation, ensures compliance with legislation, and leads a diverse team of professional, technical, and operational staff.
You’ll play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible services that meet customer service standards while guiding the development of long-term waste infrastructure and contributing to Council’s circular economy and sustainability goals.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Lead day to day waste and recycling operations across multiple facilities.
- Oversee capital works, construction, maintenance, and capital projects.
- Manage high value budgets, diverse funding sources, and contracts.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, waste, safety and public health legislation.
- Build a high performing, customer focused culture across large and diverse teams.
- Represent Council and advocate policy positions at regional, state, and federal levels.
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and resource recovery outcomes.
Requirements
Key indicators for success:
- Passion and commitment to drive excellent service delivery across all operations.
- Degree in engineering, environment, business or similar.
- Significant experience leading waste and recycling operations across multiple sites.
- Strong project management capability, including capital works and principal contracting.
- Financial management skills and experience with large, complex budgets.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Deep understanding of waste and recycling policy issues impacting local government.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation including the Environmental Protection Act, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act, WHS Act, and related policy.
- Valid C Class driver’s licence.
- Criminal history check.
- Participation in afterhours/on call roster.
- Mandatory vaccinations (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus).
