Your Opportunity
We are exciting to be looking for a Trade Waste Officer to join our Trade Partnering team, that forms part of the Customer & Innovation group.
The Customer and Innovation group leads and champions the way Urban Utilities connects with its customers. Our approach is focused on remaining contemporary, by understanding the current and future needs of our customers and appropriately shaping our services.
The purpose of the position is to provide a service to commerce and industry for the management of trade waste at source that ensures sustainable conveyance, treatment and disposal of trade waste. You will work independently to negotiate and manage trade waste customer contracts in your area of responsibility, provide expert advice to customers and ensure trade waste approval conditions are applied fairly and equitably in accordance with UU's policies.
The role requires the undertaking of duties and responsibilities of an "Authorised Person" for the purposes of enforcing certain statutes of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 and the South East Queensland (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009.
Some of your accountabilities will include:
Plan and conduct audits, inspections, sampling and testing of trade waste discharges and pre‑treatment systems, documenting findings and enforcing compliance by requiring and monitoring corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives.
Collect, analyse and report trade waste data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities, maintaining accurate records across relevant systems.
Deliver high‑quality customer service and specialised support to new and existing trade waste customers, resolving complex enquiries and identifying opportunities to secure new business.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key trade waste accounts, providing specialist guidance on policies, approval conditions and regulatory requirements.
Investigate trade waste incidents, non‑compliance and unauthorised discharges, providing expert advice and ensuring compliance with legislation, approvals and environmental management plans.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and small trade waste projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to improve compliance, efficiency and customer outcomes.
About you:
We are seeking candidates who are passionate about shaping our future, and ideally have the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
Familiarity or experience of operational and legislative aspects of trade waste management and the general functions of a water service provider.
Pro-actively engages with internal and external stakeholders to develop meaningful partnerships and deliver customer-centric outcomes.
Tertiary qualifications in a science, engineering or environment related field, relevant experience, or transferable customer, compliance, and interpersonal skills.
The role requires close contact with raw wastewater. Immunisations (e.g. Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus) may be required in accordance with Urban Utilities' Immunisation Policy.
Hold a Queensland Class C driver’s licence or equivalent interstate licence.
