Lead one of Perth's most important waste and resource recovery operations.
Shape today's operations. Plan tomorrow's landfill.
Lead the day-to-day operations of one of Perth’s key landfill and resource recovery facilities.
This is a practical leadership role for someone who understands landfill operations and knows how to lead people in a busy, safety-critical environment.
You will lead the Hopkinson Road Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility, making sure the site runs safely, services are delivered well, contractors are managed properly, and environmental and licence requirements are met.
We are looking for someone who is calm, clear and hands-on. Someone who can give direction, solve problems, support their team and keep things moving without overcomplicating the work.
There is also important future planning in this role, including landfill optimisation, rehabilitation and closure planning but success will come from strong operational leadership first.
What you'll be doing
You'll lead the City's Hopkinson Road Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility, balancing day-to-day operations with long-term planning and continuous improvement.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading the daily operations of the City's landfill and resource recovery facility
- Developing strategies for landfill optimisation, rehabilitation and future closure planning
- Leading, mentoring and developing a high-performing operational team
- Driving a strong safety culture within a complex operational environment
- Ensuring compliance with environmental licences, legislation and regulatory requirements
- Managing hazardous waste storage and environmental monitoring programs
- Leading procurement, contractor management and operational budgets
- Identifying opportunities to improve resource recovery, recycling and sustainability outcomes
- Preparing reports and providing advice to senior leaders and Elected Members
- Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative waste management solutions
About you
We're looking for someone who understands landfill operations because you've lived it.
You'll bring:
- have strong landfill, waste management or resource recovery experience
- understand licence conditions, environmental compliance and operational risk
- can lead operational teams with clear direction and patience
- are confident managing contractors, procurement and budgets
- take safety seriously and know how to lead it on the ground
- communicate well with operators, contractors, regulators, senior leaders and the community
- are practical, steady and able to make good decisions in a complex operational environment
This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the work. It is a role for someone who understands the site, the people, the risks and the responsibility that comes with running an essential community service.
