The Adelaide Hills Region Waste Management Authority (AHRWMA) is a dynamic, innovative organisation, championing sustainable resource recovery and waste management solutions for its member councils. As a key player in the region's environmental future, AHRWMA operates a state-of-the-art landfill facility, leads large-scale waste and resource recovery initiatives, and champions the push for environmental sustainability, making a lasting impact across the region.
We are looking for an exceptional Independent Board Chair who is passionate about governance, strategy, and advancing the circular economy. This individual will provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and strong advocacy as we navigate the evolving waste management landscape. This is a rare opportunity to drive the future of sustainability and innovation in resource recovery across South Australia
In this role, you'll harness your innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and strong communication and collaboration skills and action your passion for sustainability to make a meaningful impact. We're looking for someone with board chairing experience (AICD certification), a solid foundation in governance, exceptional business acumen with a growth-focused mindset, and ideally, experience in the waste industry and/or local government
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead with vision to drive strategic direction and governance, working closely with the Board and CEO to shape the future of AHRWMA.
- Champion the successful execution of AHRWMA’s ambitious Strategic Plan 2024-34, setting the course for long-term growth and sustainability.
- Engage and inspire key stakeholders, including councils, government agencies, and industry partners, to build strong, collaborative relationships.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with regulatory and legislative standards, upholding the highest levels of integrity and accountability.
- Spearhead innovation and efficiency, driving cutting-edge solutions in waste management and resource recovery for a more sustainable future.
Ideal Candidate:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified professionals with demonstrated board and leadership experience. The successful candidate will possess:
- Strategic financial and commercial acumen.
- Proven governance and leadership skills.
- Experience in the waste management, environmental, or infrastructure sectors.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Understanding of local government and regulatory environments.
- AICD qualifications or equivalent governance experience will be highly regarded.
The Board currently meets formally six times per year, however additional special meetings and time commitment for engagement with management and stakeholders needs to be factored in. This 3-year appointed position is remunerated and offers the opportunity to lead a vital regional subsidiary, shaping the future of waste management and sustainability.
